With Kaiflex KKplus s1, Kaimann offers an optimally coordinated insulation system, which in its entirety meets European fire class B/BL-s1, d0 per EN 13501-1 in the event of fire – the highest class attainable with elastomer insulation. The insulation, consisting of FEF (flexible elastomeric foam), a closed-cell synthetic rubber, is thus Kaimann’s highest safety level for areas needing extra fire protection. At smoke development class s1 (“low smoke development”), the insulation meets the strictest European requirements for smoke. For many pipe penetration solutions it provides at least 90 minutes of fire resistance per DIN 4102-11 and EN 1366.

In the event of a fire in occupied areas, the use of Kaiflex KKplus s1 means that escape and rescue routes remain visible longer, even as smoke spreads. The low smoke development of the highest smoke class s1 reduces the risk of injury and property damage by significantly reducing the danger of suffocation and smoke poisoning, as well as the contamination of building inventory and technical equipment

Tubes with patented KaiCene technology, a further development of the standard material, meet s1 classification even without coating, thus offering both low smoke development and high flame retardance. This high-performance material mix thus meets the especially high requirements of fire protection for technical insulation. Additionally, the higher standards for flame retardance for panel materials are met by the use of a low-smoke laminate, which in the event of fire foams up and so acts as a barrier. The result is excellent smoking behaviour.

Requirements for limited smoke development are tightening across Europe, with more and more demanding measures to restrict smoke from insulation materials in fires. This requirement was made clear in Germany, for example, by the revision of the model administrative regulation MVV TB 2020/1 to define smoke development class s2 as the minimum requirement for flame-resistant building products. The fire resistance duration of building components (e.g. the lead-throughs of piping systems) also plays a significant role.

As a fully coordinated insulation system consisting of sheet, tube, pipe support and adhesive, Kaifix KKplus s2 meets stricter building and fire protection requirements as well as thermal requirements for very effective technical insulation. With building material class BL/B-s2, d0 per EN 13501-1, the insulation already meets the requirements in the bid tender standard.

Thanks to our patented KaiCene technology, the panels can remain uncoated and, like the hose material, help reduce smoke development and improve personal safety in the event of fire. Up to a pipe diameter of 300 mm (including insulation), the s2 panels can also be installed in an s1 system (open tubes).

The insulation is ideal for pipe lead-throughs with fire resistance durations of 90 or even 120 minutes per DIN 4102-11. Kaiflex KKplus s2 is self-extinguishing and does not drip. In addition, up to a pipe diameter of 133 mm for steel and 42 mm for copper, no additional fire protection collar is needed for penetrations through solid structural components.

Kaiflex HTplus is a proven, universally usable insulation for interior drinking water, hot and cold water pipes as well as heating pipes, in residential and commercial buildings. With its good heat insulation – heat conductivity is λϑ at +40 °C to ≤0.036 W/(m·K) – Kaiflex HTplus can significantly reduce the energy costs of a building simply by insulating the accessible pipework. At the same time, the low heat conductivity ensures that the defined temperatures for cold water pipes (DIN 1988-200) and hot water pipes (EN 806-2) are safely maintained, preventing the growth of legionella bacteria. Safe planning of fire protection for pipes and pipe penetrations

As a rule, pipelines must be insulated. Reasons for this include minimizing energy losses and meeting legal requirements. Of course, it makes sense to carry the insulation through walls and ceilings to ensure continuous pipe insulation. In order to additionally ensure a high level of personal safety in the event of a fire, an overall planning concept must also take into account the issues of low smoke development and fire behavior. The right solution is what counts

Insulation solutions for fire protection of penetrations are classified according to their fire performance according to EN 13501-1 (reaction to fire) and EN 1366-3 (fire resistance for penetration seals). Among other things, the insulation materials of the two Saint-Gobain subsidiaries ISOVER and Kaimann achieve the best possible building material fire classification classes A2, s1-d0 (non-combustible) for mineral wool and B-s1, d0 (low smoke spread and flame-retardant) for elastomeric insulation materials. The building material classes are composed of the reaction of fire (A2, B etc.), the smoke development in case of fire (s = smoke/smogra, s1, s2, s3) as well as the flaming droplets (d = droplets, d0, d1, d2). In addition, the fire resistance R90 or R120 (DIN 4102) and EI30, EI60, EI90 and E120 (l EN1366-3) is crucial to prevent passage of flames and hot gasses in fire compartments.

Both manufacturers supply comprehensively tested fire protection insulation solutions for combustible and non-combustible pipes as well as pipe penetrations for wall and ceiling openings.
